Family AI Film Series

This is a film project for my family. I was inspired by my Grandma and Grandpa Jimenez and the stories I grew up hearing about their life as migrant workers. Using AI, I set out to turn those stories into a film that preserves our family’s history from the 1950s and 60s. It’s a story of perseverance, home life, and small miracles.

/ Characters

The first thing I did was draft the characters.
I used old Jimenez family photos and fed them into Midjourney to help shape their look for the film. Have you ever known someone and thought, How are you not famous? That’s my grandma Jimenez. A great beauty, she has always felt like a legacy figure in our family. She made it easy to Hollywood-ize everything. All I had was one photo from her early twenties (shown below), but it was enough to draft scenes.

/ Plot

There were so many family stories to choose from that I decided to take an episodic approach. My grandpa was charismatic and funny. My grandma was quiet, elegant, and sharp. Some stories felt so relatable, and others bordered on miraculous. It’s the small things that made them unforgettable. I chose to create multiple small 4-minute episodes to bring more of their legacy to life.

/ Result

The result so far.
This is still a work in progress, but the first episode made my family laugh, cry, and watch it several times. They love my grandma deeply, and at 96 she is still the legendary matriarch of our family. One of the best parts was seeing her reminisce as her story came to life.
